The largest model kit I've made and has no where to go as of yet; the Vulcan was the UK's main Nuclear deterrant for 25 years as part of the V-Bomber force.

Its kinda the crown jewle of my collection and its the Big and mighty Vulcan, teterring on the edge of retirement ; the remaining Vulcans in good condition were flown to Asscension Island; an island belonging to the UK and was a vital stage post for the task force to retake the Islands.

The Bombing Missions were called the 'Black Buck' and were the longest in history.

The main objective was to put the runway at Port Stanley airport out of comission; but first they had to get there... for two bombers a fleet of tankers were required; mostly Victor Tankers; a former V-bomber aircraft itself; just like a Blackbird operation! XDXDXD

The raids were not all that sucessful; the Argentine SAM's - The French Roland - and AA (of which the gunners were very accurate - enough to shoot down a nimble and small Mirage III) surrounded the airport; however on one raid one bomb landed smack bang dead-centre on the runway.

Now the runway itself was repaired a few days after but it delayed the posting of aircraft there but most importantly it boosted the moral of our troops and the islanders themselves; it also made FAA and the crazy dictator realise that the possibilities of an actual raid on their homeland was very much possible, therefore FAA command keep most of its Fighters - Mirage 3's - to maintain CAP's to prevent a possible Bomber raid.

It showed the logistics of the RAF more than anything; getting aircraft older than the pilots themselves half way around the world (8000+ miles) was quite a feat of planning that required pretty much every tanker aircraft we had; the ait-to-air refueling probes were borrowed from musuems and a Jamming pod (visible on model) was borrowed from the RAF's Bucaneer fleet.

The Vulcans destroyed parts of the runway and airport buildings; they also took part in SEAD - Supression of Enemy Air Defence - missions and destroyed several Roland SAM's and several Radar installations.

It was also the first time the Vulcan had dropped a weapon in anger ever since t entered service in the shakey 60's

In the end one had to divert to Brazil due to a re-fueling failure; ended up sitting the war out in Brazil... came back after with a little Brazil flag painted next to the bomb 'kill' markings XD

An re-realease Airfix kit; it was ok, needed a ell of a lot of weight in the nose. I worked on this one for some time; every time a kit was finished I would do a bit of the Vulcan, its not new, but I havent posted it in here DX

Hope you like; I'll try and take a better angle of it but it is really big =3

I think it shows the thinking of design back in the 60's; big, beautiful, purposefull and advanced; the 'Tin-Triangle' was loud and a first ^^ Like a big manta ray =3
